Meeting Rooms

The plenary sessions and workshops will be held on Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, with the penary sessions in the Terman Engineering Building Auditorium.

To get to campus from US Highway 101, take the Embarbadero Road exit and follow the signs to Stanford University.  After you cross El Camino Real (right past athe Town & Country Shopping Center, about 3 miles/5 km from Highway 101), Embarcadera Road leads into the Stanford University Campus and becomes called Galvez Street (coordinates 400,66 on Stanford's campus map.

Hotel

The conference hotel is the Holiday Inn - Palo Alto, 625 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. Their phone and fax numbers are (phone): 1-800-874-3516 (in the U.S.) or 1-650-328-2800 and (fax): 1-650-327-7362.

The Holiday Inn is close to the Palo Alto station of the CalTrain (which runs between San Francisco and San Jose). It is the closest hotel to the Stanford campus and is about a 15-minute leisurely walk, or an even shorter bicycle ride, through the palm tree-lined campus to the workshop meeting rooms. You can also take a shuttle van from the hotel, or Line B of Stanford's Marguerite bus service (see map below).

The Holiday Inn - Palo Alto features cable TV, 24-hour movie service, laundry/valet, free shuttle, pool, fitness room, complimentary coffee/paper in lobby, and poolside dining.

NOTE:  No more rooms are available at the Holiday Inn.  If you still need a room, check the hotels listed at http://www.leland.stanford.edu/dept/hds/chs/general/hotel.html.

Transportation

Palo Alto/Stanford is located between San Francisco and San Jose, California, both of which have international airports; more flights go to San Francisco.

You have several options for traveling from the San Franciso Airport to Palo Alto: 1) rent a car at the airport and drive, which is about 30 miles, 2) call the Holiday Inn (or other hotel at which you are staying) to arrange a free shuttle van from the airport, 3) take a free shuttle from the airport to the CalTrain station, then take the CalTrain (just a few dollars) to Palo Alto, or 4) arrange for a shuttle from the airport to Palo Alto with a private service.

Once you're in Palo Alto, you don't necessarily need a car. The meeting rooms are within easy walking distance from the Holiday Inn, for most people, and there are several forms of public transportation (see the maps below). Palo Alto is also a very bicycle-friendly city, with flat terrain.

Parking

Parking is available at the Holiday Inn for Holiday Inn guests only; others can pick up a parking permit for "C" parking lots (see the orange spheres on the Stanford University map below) at the WET ICE registration desk. Some free parking is also available farther away, along El Camino Real and Stanford Avenue.

Weather

Palo Alto in June is typically warm and sunny, with low huidity; expect it to be between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit (18-25 Celsius) during the day and 55-65 F (13-18 C) at night.  Note:  San Francisco can be significantly colder and windier, especially at night.
